What is MusicXML?

MusicXML is the standard open format for exchanging digital sheet music between applications like MuseScore, Finale, Sibelius, Dorico, and more. It describes musical notation in XML, including notes, rests, dynamics, key signatures, time signatures, and layout instructions.

Our free online editor lets you inspect, fix, hear, and restructure MusicXML files without installing any software. Whether you need to correct a wrong time signature, fix beaming, add or remove measures, update metadata, listen to your score with real instrument sounds, or simply explore how MusicXML works — this tool has you covered.

More Than Just a Viewer

Most MusicXML viewers only let you look at a file. Practito’s editor goes further — you can edit individual measures, insert and delete measures, auto-beam notes, edit metadata (title, composer, arranger, copyright), and play back the entire score with realistic SoundFont instruments like piano, guitar, violin, and trumpet. When you’re done, download your edited file or share it with the Practito community.
